Spring Into Action
“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit.” ~ Aristotle
Spring forward
To leap is to “spring a long way, to a great height, or with great force.” To act is to “take action; do something.” to spring is to “originate or arise from.” As we begin a new season and a new quarter and a new year—contrary to belief the true new year begins at the spring equinox—it’s time to take those goals that were set in January and put them into action steps.
An action step is an effort in reaching a goal. It’s your To Do list put into motion. I detailed how to set goals in my book How to be a Goal Achiever. A goal is just a wish written down. If you don’t create a plan of action on how you will go about achieving the goal, it will remain a dream. Action changes things. It tells the universe you are taking a step toward bringing that goal into fruition, thus, changing the trajectory.
habits + repetition = discpline
Taking frequent small steps/action toward a goal is habit forming. Habits and repetition are synonymous. The more you do something the better you’ll master it. Take a good look at nature. Nature is repetitive. We know the seasons will change every year, the seeds planted will sprout, then bloom, the fall leaves will change colors, winter will have its first snowfall, and summer will have its long days and short nights. And though, repetition can be monotonous, there’s beauty in the outcome.
Whatever your goal, execute it. Then repeat the action for all of your goals. This becomes a habit. “Nothing happens until you move.”
Take one small step this quarter, toward your goal. If you set goals in January, compare and contrast where you are, then revise accordingly. Having a To Do list makes it easier to create an action plan and you’ll be better able to measure the goal each quarter.
Spring forward; take action!
Be great!
