2020 Vision
Happy New Year!
Another new year! A new decade and another chance to start anew.
The social media consensus (via hashtags) is that this year is symbolic to having 20/20 vision. Seeing things more clearly. A vivid vision, our goals coming into fruition. Being really clear on how we want our lives, our future to look.
If 2019 was the year of planting seeds and tilling the soil, then 2020 marks the year of harvest.
We set our goals, we created a vision, we’re looking forward to the results.
Process Oriented vs. Results Oriented
The process-oriented approach is working toward our goals by a specific pattern. The results-oriented approach is using an objective as direction, however; there’s flexibility for improvement.
“Results oriented goals are true goals.”
Goals are specific achievements we set for ourselves. Results oriented goals are achieving a specific outcome. What’s the reason why you set the goal? The focus is on the end result rather than the process toward obtaining the result. The process is the action we take to achieve the goal. The result becomes more of a priority than the action taken to achieve that outcome.
For example. Let’s say one of my goals is to retire in four years. What is the result of retiring in 4 years? Freedom. Freedom to do what I want when I want. This end result shifts my mindset and becomes more of the priority than the process in getting there, thus, my short term goals/action plan might be to increase income, invest, save more, and eliminate debt. It’s a given I’m going to establish a task list on getting things done in order to achieve the result, however; instead of the focus being on the process, the more important “goal” is the result, and as a result, I might up the ante on my short term goals.
Think in terms of a card game. It’s allowing the outcome of a hand to affect the way you think about how to play your hand.
Clear Vision
The overall outcome of setting a goal is the results. Getting clear about the results of our goals rather than the results of the action we take to get closer to obtaining the goal, is gaining clarity on the bigger picture.
Setting a goal is the knowledge of where we’re going, taking the necessary steps in getting there, and improving the process while we get there. Make this the year of being results oriented.
Here’s to 2020; the year of results!
Be great…the world needs more of that!
