March Forth
Top of a new month! This week commands us to move forward!
March is the quarter of the year, and the quarter mark of our three month, six month, yearly goals set at the top of of the year. It’s at this mark we revisit our first quarter goals and do a check and balance of our progress, what we’ve accomplished, and next steps. If some goals weren’t met at the deadline, that’s okay. Clap for yourself for the ones you achieved and then readjust the others.
Adjusting is part of the process to goal setting and completion. Goals are like a running task list; constant adding and subtracting. Like a task list, some goals we have to adjust, extend, and prioritize.
Adjust. Extend. Prioritize.
Subtract those remaining three month goals and add to your six month objectives. Make these your priority goals. Tackle these first. Extend some of your six month goals to your yearly goals. Goal extension prevent us from giving ourselves too much to accomplish, thus, becoming overwhelmed. This is the importance of adjusting, extending, and prioritizing.
Goal setting isn’t necessarily about completion, rather, progress. Progress shows us how much we can accomplish when we set clear intentions. Goals are designed to guide us. We set deadlines for ourselves to serve as motivation. Missing the “mark,” i.e., the deadline, isn’t a failure. Sometimes shit happens; motivation comes in ebbs and flows. Don’t rush progress. Progress is onward movement. Everything in its time.
Smashing Goals
March is also National Women’s History Month. Congress declared it as such in 1987.
A celebration of historical women across all genres, past and present, and far too many to list. In every way women are making history. Women have found the strength and courage to raise their voices and be heard both through words and actions. Speaking up and out against sexism, classism and racism, in the workplace, in politics, and in protest movements across social media platforms.
Every day women are breaking glass ceilings, pursuing higher education in shattering statistics, traveling abroad in droves (living their best lives), creating our own lanes with side hustles—some of which have gone main hustle. Women are changing the narrative.
Spring Forward
Lastly, March brings forth a new season. The clocks spring forward. The signs of spring are nearing. Longer days and warmer weather ahead. Renewal and the emergence of nature will soon dazzle us with her beauty.
Season changes are proof that what lay dormant stay rooted until its time to blossom. The goals we establish for ourselves, the intentions (seeds) we set (plant) and the steps we take (progress) will soon too, sprout.
Make “her story.”
Be great…the world needs more of that.
