All Systems Go

All Systems Go

“You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.” ~ James Clear,  Atomic Habits

It’s been a while, I know. I took a writing break! I need to figure out my own system of blogging, if it should be weekly, monthly, bi-weekly. Bear with me! When I get my system in order, I promise to deliver these blog posts on time. Even the organization guru needs to get her systems in order :-)

Speaking of systems…

We’re in the last month of Q2, and it’s a new month. I hope you crushed a few of your Q2 goals. Congratulate yourself! It’s okay if you’re not quite where you want to be, small steps set the foundation for the bigger goals so be flexible on the ones you’ve yet to accomplish; adjust, extend and prioritize for Q3. Summer days are ahead so take time out to have some fun! #balance

If you’re feeling stuck or unmotivated with accomplishing your goals, perhaps it’s because you haven’t created a system. I’m all about a system being in place for all things personal and business. I find having one helps you manage yourself and your time.

Goal setting isn’t enough, you must establish a system.

In my consults on decluttering/organization, I developed four tips to develop a system. You can apply these tips to all areas you need to declutter: your closets, organizing your emails, electronic and manual filing systems. You can apply this method to create balance in your life and your goals.

System Development

  1. Take inventory of your surroundings - in this case your goals

    • Review. Reflect. Rearrange. Are your (surroundings) goals representative of where you are, where you want to be, or a reflection of where you once were?

  2. Purge and merge!

    • Eliminate. Evaluate. Execute. Keep what you need, toss/shred/give away things that are no longer serving their purpose.

    • Applied to your goals, this is the “adjusting, extending and prioritizing” (see hyperlink above to former blog post).

  3. Categorize. Compartmentalize.

    • You can set up your goals quarterly, or in 3 months, 6 months, 1 year intervals.

  4. Develop a system.

    • Your categories derive out of the “purge and merge.”

    • Maintain.

No system will run effectively if the source isn’t well maintained. Maintenance is necessary for the system to work. Every so often you will have to adjust your goals.

Creating a system is creating good habits.

Set some goals, smash ‘em, clap for yourself, rinse and repeat.

Be great…the world needs more of that
