Evolve or Repeat
Eliminate what doesn’t help you evolve.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results, according to the late great Albert Einstein.
We’re in the last month of 2018. I don’t know about you, but this year has been choc full of emotionally charged scenarios. Determining the “what next” for me business wise and personally has been challenging. Unhealed issues from the past reared their ugly heads and forced me to confront demons--mine and other folks. Repetitive patterns gained my immediate attention; I was cautionary in my reaction this time around! Patterns repeat themselves until you confront and combat them. Considering my 2017 year, being hit in every area of my life: finances, personal relationships, business, breakdowns—in the literal sense—physical objects and mentally; I was not about to relive that experience.
In recognizing patterns, I was able to evolve from where I was at the top of 2018 to where I am toward the end of the year. Depending solely on consulting wages, the equivalent of part time earnings in 2017 caused me to fall behind in debt and bills. When my finances improved I was still feeling the after effects of paying down debt and paying up past due bills, which trickled over to 2018. But by the middle of the year and toward the end, I was able to pay down and off debt — $8,900 dollars in debt to be exact!
Evolve or repeat.
The shit that keeps showing up is trying to get your attention so pay attention! If you find yourself continually repeating what you’ve always done, you’re not leveling up. What are you holding onto that might be preventing you from evolving, business and personally? Are you stuck on old ideologies that haven’t produced results, or producing the same results? What needs to be eliminated from your life? What’s your space telling you about where you are? We often don’t make the connection between a cluttered space and our lifestyle. Physical stuff holds energy. Clutter is stagnant energy. When you de-clutter you’re not only clearing out the physical but the mental stuff too because most of the time, your outer surroundings are telling your inner story--what’s going on with you internally shows up in your physical space. It’s the people you surround yourself with, toxic relationships and environments, your self talk and using victim vocabulary.
Take inventory of your surroundings and take notice of what you’re holding onto. Is your environment representative of where you are currently? Where you’re trying to go? Or does your environment remind you of where you once were? The “stuff” you hold onto could be what’s preventing you from moving forward in spirit as well as physically.
As you evolve so too will your goals, and the plan of action you take in accomplishing those goals. Use this last month of the year to prioritize, to get focused and really get clear on building the life you desire. Get rid of every and any thing, relationships, career choice, et al., that no longer serves a purpose or are aligned with your goals.
Take a pause. Reflect on the year. I’m sure where were you at the top of 2018 is not where you are currently. Pat yourself on the back for your efforts and accomplishments. Breathe! Get into the holiday spirit and go out and enjoy the fruits of your efforts.
Relax. Recalibrate. Renew.
When you’re ready to write out your 2019 goals be sure they are attainable. Break your goals into quarterly deadlines. Be realistic. Less is more. Take baby steps. Those small steps help elevate you in accomplishing the bigger tasks.
If we’re not evolving, we’re not growing. We’re stagnant.
Evolve or repeat - that’s the 2019 mantra!
